Kolkata: Police on Monday arrested Amal Sarkar, the driver of an SUV, which tried to cross over a railway level crossing near Khardah station while a train was approaching late on Sunday night. The SUV was hit by the express train.
After the accident, the Railways is planning to set up a road overbridge (ROB) at the spot. Deepak Nigam, Eastern Railway’s DRM, Sealdah, said, “This accident notwithstanding, an ROB would have been built at Khardah because some heavy traffic gates have already been identified by ER and it has duly been submitted to the high authorities.”
ER has submitted a detailed project report of the identified spots where an ROB is needed.“Once the feasibility is established, Railways will approach the state for an NOC,” an official said.
Nigam said, “Meanwhile, it is my fervent request to the public to act responsibly like a law-abiding citizen would and adhere to level crossing norms. Whenever there is an approach road, please desist from accessing the level crossing area, especially when you see the boom is being lowered.”
