  • Kolkata: The Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Tuesday received an approval of about Rs 1.3 crore from the state urban development department for repairing damaged roads in four blocks in Salt Lake.

The administrative approval and financial sanction have been granted for repairs and renovation of damaged bituminous roads in GD, HB, IB and IC Blocks in Salt Lake under BMC Ward 34.“Funds from the truncated road repair proposals, which were earlier submitted, are being approved and allocated in phases, as required. All the 41 wards of BMC, spread across Salt Lake and Rajarhat-Gopalpur, are being covered,” said a BMC roads department official.

Stretches in several places in Salt Lake have started developing craters after the few spells of rain that the city has received so far. There are several spots near the eastern drainage channel in Sector III and also on the main thoroughfares in Sector 1 and II, where commuters have to negotiate large craters. “Tenders will be floated and repairs will be taken up, according to availability of funds,” said a BMC official.
