  • Kolkata: “Sukanta Majumdar has his ear to the ground and so do I,” state leader of opposition Suvendu Adhikari said on Tuesday. His remark followed the Bengal BJP president and junior Union minister’s earlier comments telling BJP workers not to depend on central agency probes and arrests to secure a win in the polls.

Adhikari took a delegation of voters to Raj Bhavan to allege that some people were selectively stopped from casting their votes in the recent bypolls. He has launched a website to log complaints on this issue.

Coming out of Raj Bhavan, Adhikari said: “The state president has the final word in the party. We are an organised party where the party president has the supreme opinion. Moreover, Sukanta Majumdar has his ear to the ground, and he expressed his opinion.”

He added: “However, I have my ear to the ground too and I express my opinion.” Majumdar, who had been attending workers’ meets in Midnapore and Hooghly, had said CBI and ED investigations could not help win an election.

He asked BJP workers to focus on strengthening the organisation. While he did not name Adhikari, party seniors said Majumdar had meant to address him as well. In the backdrop of repeated assertions by Trinamool Congress of “agenda-driven probes by central agencies”, Majumdar clarified later on Monday night: “I am being misinterpreted by Trinamool. CBI and ED arrests suspects in scams. They have done that earlier and will continue to do so. But workers cannot solely depend on this. Such expectations will weaken the party.”
