• 2 dead, 7 injured in six accidents

  • Kolkata: At least two persons died and seven injured in six accidents in the city. Early on Tuesday, a 73-year-old woman, who went to buy puja flowers after taking a dip in the Hooghly, was run over by a private bus at the Bhupen Bose Avenue-Girish Avenue crossing.

    “She was crossing the road when the signal turned green. She fell in the blind spot of the bus driver plying on route 47B.The victim received injuries on her legs and rushed to RG Kar Hospital,” said a police officer. She died around three hours later.

    In the second fatal accident, Sanat Mondal (27), a milk van driver, died after a collision with another truck on the Basanti Highway near Chowbhaga Crossing. The accident took place around 6.50 am. The victim was declared dead at the NRS Hospital.

    Umashankar Pandey (57) of Chandernagore was critically injured after being hit by a bus at the MG Road on Monday evening. He was trying to cross the road when the accident took place. Rumiya Sarkar (64) was injured after a truck hit her at the Moulali Crossing around 1.25 pm on Tuesday. She sustained multiple injuries.

    At 2.35 pm, three members of a family were injured at the Chingrighata Crossing while they were returning to their Behala residence. Cops said an app cab hit their e-bike. The victims — Arunava Bhattacharya (43), Sandipa Bhattacharya (33) and Ishani Bhattacharya (7) — are out of danger. At 2.10 am, two bikers were injured when hit by a car on Ambedkar Bridge.
