Kolkata: The Kolkata Police on Tuesday arrested a youth who owns a guest house for allegedly raping a woman after befriending her at a central Kolkata pub-cum-nightclub through a common friend.
According to police, the accused met the woman at a bar near Park Street. After the two became acquainted, the youth reportedly invited her to his flat and then raped her.Following this, a complaint was filed at Shyampukur police station on July 15.
“The accused took the woman to his flat in his car. It is alleged that she was drugged inside the car. The woman, though, has stated that she was first raped at a Salt Lake guest house and later at the flat in Sovabazar owned by the accused,” an officer said.
Based on the complaint, a rape case was registered under the new BNS sections.
The accused was presented in court on Wednesday. Cops will move court to record the statement of the woman before a magistrate and the complainant’s apparel is being seized for forensic examination, cops said.
