BJP’s defeated DH candidate files election petition in HC

Kolkata: BJP’s Diamond Harbour Lok Sabha poll candidate Abhijit Das, who lost to Trinamool general secretary Abhishek Banerjee by more than 7 lakh votes, filed an election petition in Calcutta High Court on Thursday, alleging large-scale rigging in the constituency, reports Subrata Chattoraj.
Apart from pointing fingers at the state administration, Das accused general observers appointed by EC for the seat of acting in tandem with the state administration.The defeated BJP candidate said he was astonished to see the results in Falta assembly segment, where he secured much less votes than what he had got in 2014. “An election petition, along with documents, has to be filed within 45 days from the elections. The deadline ends on Friday. So, I chose to file the petition on Thursday,” Das said.
