  • Kolkata: Two persons were injured in a clash involving over two dozen bikers in a Sarsuna neighbourhood, near Sarsuna College, in the early hours of Wednesday. According to locals, the clash may have been over control of the syndicate business in the area. DC (Behala) Rahul De, however, said the probe has, so far, not thrown up any syndicate angle but a larger enmity angle.Though the local Trinamool has distanced itself from the incident, denying there was a political angle, both groups have reportedly been sent a stern message that such behaviour will not be tolerated.

For the locals, this was the first incident of bikers arriving at the spot to intimidate residents. “The bikes were creating a ruckus. When we came out, they fled while yelling foul words. We never had such a culture here,” said Swati Ganguly, a local resident.

“A case was recorded based on the complaint of Avijit Sarkar of Basudevpur alleging that around 12.30 am on July 17, a quarrel broke out between two groups, followed by a fight between the complainant and his friends, and a gang led by two brothers residing in the Sonamukhi area near Jheel 2. In the fight, the victim received deep cuts on his head,” De said.

One camp alleged that on Tuesday, an influential member of one group was returning home on his bike when he was stopped and abused near Jheel 2 by three-four youths who threatened him in the name of a local construction material supplier. The victim somehow went home. Around 12:30 am, dozens of bikers arrived at the spot and began assaulting a local and his two companions. Hearing the commotion, locals came out, prompting the bikers to flee.
