  • Kolkata: The question of a scanning software reading an OMR sheet even when the alpha-numeric box for the roll number was not shaded reached Calcutta High Court on Friday.

The HC was hearing a case in which a ‘photocopy’ of the OMR sheet of a 2017 TET candidate, provided by WBBPE, revealed that the roll number was written but the box was not shaded.

WBBPE counsel Subir Sanyal said even if the alpha-numeric box beside the roll number was not shaded, the software could read an OMR sheet.

Justice Amrita Sinha directed WBBPE to file an affidavit by the next hearing on Aug 14 stating whether it was mandatory for candidates to shade the alpha-numeric boxes for the roll number, question booklet code and others.

Petitioner Tina Mukherjee submitted that the “photocopy” of the OMR sheet provided after an RTI application was not hers.
