  • Kolkata: State leader of opposition Suvendu Adhikari on Friday found himself in a controversy, for the second time in three days, after he was seen taking off his slipper and showing it to protesters at Nadia’s Ranaghat.

In a video of the incident, the BJP neta, who evidently lost his cool, was also seen shouting back at the agitators.

As Trinamool Congress strongly condemned his actions, Adhikari claimed people “with ill intentions” were trying to stop him from going to the home of BJP workers who were not allowed to vote.

In a video posted by former Trinamool Rajya Sabha MP Kunal Ghosh, it appeared that Adhikari’s convoy had stopped at Nadia’s Gangnapur, where he was facing incessant barracking from a crowd. The BJP neta took off his slipper and showed it to the people before walking to his vehicle. He did not immediately get in but stood and shouted back at the protesters.

Trinamool netas who posted this video alleged that Adhikari “had lost it”.

Adhikari did not comment on why he took off his slipper but later posted on X, tagging MHA and the CRPF DG: “On my way I was obstructed by TMC goons who had ill intentions and blocking my path seemed to be the first step to cause harm to me in some manner. It happened in the presence of the Officer in Charge of Gangnapur Police Station; Anupam Dhali, who played a pivotal role in the organised vote loot during the Bypoll.”
