  • Due to a global IT outage, flight operations were disrupted nationwide, affecting travel and flight schedules at Kolkata Airport. At least 25 flights, including 14 departures and 11 arrivals, have been cancelled, according to airport officials.

Two IndiGo flights from Kolkata – one to Silchar and the other to Bangalore – were cancelled.

More than 40 departure and 29 arrival flights have been delayed, as per information received from the airport.

The issue at the airport started at 10 am Friday, with the first affected flight was from Indigo Airlines at 10.30 am, said the airport officials.

“Passengers are advised to contact their respective airlines for updates,” Kolkata Airport posted on its X handle.

“We’re facing a network-wide issue with Microsoft Azure, causing delays at airports. Check-ins may be slower and queues longer. Our Digital team is working with Microsoft to resolve this swiftly. For assistance, please reach out to our on-ground team. Thanks for your patience,” the post said.

Several passengers, who have flight tickets for tomorrow, also reported facing problems with the web check-in.

“There is complete chaos at the airport. Initially passengers were not well informed, there were long queues at the enquiry and arrival departure gates too,” said an airport staff. The passengers have been asked to co-operate and proper communication is being done, said the staff, adding that it is a global issue.

A widespread IT meltdown has gripped the world after a critical flaw in CrowdStrike software triggered a cascade of system failures. Airports, banks, retailers, and media outlets are among the numerous organisations grappling with the fallout.
