  • Kolkata: The bereaved parents of Class XI student Angikar Dasgupta, who died after falling off a bus on VIP Road on Thursday, lodged a complaint at the Baguiati PS on Saturday, demanding a probe into their son’s death. They alleged they were manhandled by the staffers at Barasat Medical College and Hospital and beaten up and injured by cops at the hospital outpost for demanding to see their son’s body that was already sent to the morgue.

Hospital officials and cops denied the assault allegation.

“Angikar’s parents—Anjan and Kasturi—were not asked about further action. We will lodge a complaint against the officer who assaulted them,” Kathalali Sengupta, Angikar’s aunt told TOI.

Police said a probe would be initiated. “If there is a complaint, it will be investigated. A department inquiry will be initiated against the officer, if he is found guilty in a preliminary probe,” a senior Barasat officer said. State health and education director Kaustav Nayek said, “The hospital has been asked to submit a report.” He said reasons behind complaints of insensitive behaviour in hospital were also being probed.

Angikar’s grandfather, Goutam Sengupta, a doctor, said, “The boy was declared “brought dead” earlier than the mandatory four hours. We don’t know in what condition he was taken to hospital. Who knows if he had a chance to survive?”

A Barasat PS cop said the parents were not allowed to see the body in the morgue to “avoid law-and-order situation”.
