• Rush for refund at Kolkata airport

  • Passengers crowded gate 3C seeking ticket validation or refunds for missed flights KOLKATA: Flight schedules returned to normal at Kolkata airport on Saturday morning following largescale disruptions due to a glitch in Microsoft cloud services that had sparked chaos in airports worldwide.

But there was severe crowding at the airport, particularly near gate 3C at the departure level, where airline counters are situated, as passengers who were unable to take their flights on Friday rushed there to get their tickets validated on another flight or seek refund.

On Friday, five departing domestic flights were cancelled and 58 flights had been delayed. In the international section, nine flights had been delayed. Passengers entering the airport terminal had faced difficulty as DigiYatra gates weren't operational in phases and manual checks of flight tickets and ID cards led to serpentine queues. Airline staff were forced to issue handwritten boarding passes.

The scene at the terminal entrance and departure lounge was starkly different on Saturday with DigiYatra restored, which enabled smooth entry of flyers, and airlines used check-in terminals without a hitch.
