  • Kolkata: Mohammedan Sporting suffered another early jolt in their title defence, going down 1-3 to United Sports Club in their CFL Premier Division on Saturday.

Following a barren first half, Rohmingthanga handed United SC the lead in the 47th minute, meeting Tarak Hembram’s free-kick with a towering header and giving Mohammedan Sporting custodian Subhajit Bhattacharjee no chance to react.

Sujal Munda then made it 2-0 for United SC with an excellent left-footer from the edge of the box in the 81st minute. Although Mahitosh Roy reduced the margin with an equally remarkable finish in the 90th minute, Munda took the wind out of Mohammedan Sporting’s sails with his second goal deep in the stoppage time, as Subhajit this time around failed to hold on to the ball properly and let it roll over the goalline.

With 12 points from 6 matches, United SC have now provisionally moved into the top 3, behind Diamond Harbour FC and Suruchi Sangha (both on 13 points). Mohammedan Sporting — with three wins, two losses and one draw — have slipped to the fifth position in the 13-team Group A.

The top 3 team each from Group A and Group B will advance to the Super Six or the championship round.

In other matches, Wari SC edged Pathachakra SC 1-0 in Barrackpore while Kidderpore SC stayed in hunt for a Super Six berth defeating Southern Samity 4-3 in Kalyani and moving to the fourth position.
