• TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee demands arrest of Dharmendra Pradhan over NEET paper leak: ‘Biggest scam in India since Independence’

  • Trinamool Congress (TMC) national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee on Sunday demanded the arrest of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the NEET UG paper leak issue.

Addressing the party’s annual Martyrs’ Day rally in Kolkata, Banerjee slammed the BJP-led government at the Centre for showing discrimination while initiating central agency probes.

“A day after July 21, 2022, the ED raided the house of former state education minister Partha Chatterjee’s house and arrested him. We don’t shield anyone who has made mistakes and we don’t allow injustice. But if Partha Chatterjee’s house can be raided by the central agencies in the SSC recruitment scam and he can be arrested, then why shouldn’t Dharmendra Pradhan be arrested and his house be raided for the NEET scam, which is the biggest scam in India since Independence. Why this discrimination?” asked the TMC’s Diamond Harbour MP.

Banerjee said that the people of Bengal have driven out the BJP from the state in the Lok Sabha polls and taught Prime Minister Narendra Modi a big lesson.

The TMC leader said the party will take action against its leaders who remained inactive during Lok Sabha polls. “Those who think that they will work in different ways in different polls will face action. I had been busy for the past few days as I was doing introspection of our party’s performance in Lok Sabha polls. I will take action within three months. Those councillors in panchayat think that after winning elections, they won’t work in Lok Sabha as it is Mamata Banerjee’s responsibility. They will face action,” said Banerjee.

“I will give my word that those panchayat representatives, councillors, municipality chairpersons, or vice-chairpersons who did not reach out to people or were unable to deliver results in the Lok Sabha polls, we will take similar action against all – be it town president, municipality chairman, gram panchayat Pradhan, or anyone,” added the TMC leader.

On July 21, the Trinamool Congress holds its annual ‘Martyrs’ Day’ rally in Kolkata. On that day, Chief Minister and TMC chief Mamata Banerjee addresses a public meeting in Kolkata to commemorate the deaths of the 13 people who were killed during a demonstration by the West Bengal Youth Congress — then led by Mamata — on July 21, 1993.
