  • Kolkata: The state assembly will debate resolutions on NEET and the newly passed criminal laws this week.

In the first business advisory committee meeting for the monsoon session on Monday, it was decided that a motion under Rule 169 would be introduced on the NEET issue on Tuesday and a two-hour debate would take place on the topic on Wednesday at 11 am. On Friday, another motion against the new criminal laws will be introduced and debated for an hour-and-a-half.

Speaker Biman Banerjee said the motion, demanding scrapping of NEET and restoration of the previous system of individual state govts conducting such examinations, would be moved on the floor of the House on Tuesday. The second resolution would be on the three new criminal laws introduced in India, he added.

Trinamool has strongly criticised the NEET paper leak and demanded that Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan resign. The party, and CM Mamata Banerjee, have also raised their objections to the hasty implementation of the new criminal laws without adequate consultations, both inside and outside Parliament.

The resolutions, once passed by the assembly, will be sent to President Droupadi Murmu for consideration.
