  • Kolkata: A proposed cabinet reshuffle in Bengal is being delayed due to a stand-off between Nabanna and Raj Bhavan. According to sources, a file on this has been sent to Raj Bhavan, which has not been cleared. Raj Bhavan did not speak on the issue.

According to sources, state irrigation minister Partha Bhowmick, now elected as a Lok Sabha MP from Barrackpore, will have to vacate his cabinet berth. An existing cabinet minister is likely to be asked to take up the irrigation portfolio. There are many more rejigs planned. A senior official said Nabanna was likely to write to Raj Bhavan again on this issue.

Due to the ongoing stand-off, it was decided that no new minister would be swo-rn in. Sources said given the testy relations, it was unclear whether state ministers, or even CM Mamata Banerjee, would step into Raj Bhavan. A reshuffle was planned that would not require any fresh swearing-in. However, that too, is now undecided.
