  • Kolkata: The family of Anwarul Azim Anar, the murdered Bangladeshi MP, has written to CID saying that they cannot travel to Kolkata for the DNA test due to the prevailing conditions in the neighbouring country.

The investigators stated that they too are likely to be late in getting custody of the four accused, who are now in Dhaka police custody, even as the charge sheet is likely to be ready in the next two weeks. The police said they try to bring the accused to Kolkata after the condition in Bangladesh improves. “Since the deadline to file the charge sheet is approaching, we are planning to complete the processes soon. We are keeping a practical approach,” claimed a senior official.

CID sources reported that a few days ago, the MP's daughter, Mumtarin Ferdous Dorin, informed them about the current situation in Bangladesh, which would delay their visit to Kolkata.

A CID official stated that with the mediation and assistance of the Bangladesh govt, Dorinn, the MP's wife Yasmin Ferdous and his brother Enamul Haque were asked to come to Kolkata. The MP's daughter assured them that they would come as soon as the situation improves.

The MP went missing on May 12 after arriving in Kolkata. Later, it was discovered that he was murdered in an apartment in New Town. The accused reportedly dismembered his body, disposing of the flesh in a septic tank and the bones in a canal in Krishnamati. The bones and flesh were sent for forensic examination, which confirmed they were human remains.

Subsequently, it was decided that a DNA test will be carried out to find the identity of the victim. Accordingly, in the first half of June, CID requested Anwarul Azim's wife, daughter, and brother to come to Kolkata.
