Kolkata: The state govt had reconstituted the state-level police complaint authority. It will be headed by Justice Ashim Kumar Roy, Lokayukta of Bengal. Other members include home secretary Nandini Chakraborty while DGP Rajeev Kumar is the convenor of the committee. Kolkata’s police commissioner Vineet Goyal is also on the panel.
An official said that the state govt set up the new panel so that complaints against the police can be better addressed through this special body.
Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee had criticized the role of a section of policemen and stated a section of police were minting money, threatening to take action against those found guilty. The panel was revamped as a result, said officials, adding that it is aimed at giving relief to the citizens.
