Medical camp for families adopted by MBBS students of Diamond Harbour Medical College

TOI photo KOLKATA: The Family Adoption Programme (FAP) for medical graduate students under the National Medical Commission is making a difference in the lives of many, especially those residing in the rural areas. As part of the programme, MBBS students along with their teachers of Diamond Harbour Government Medical College (DHMC) set up a comprehensive health camp for the families under the FAP, on Friday.
Organised at the Urban Health Training Centre of DHMC apart from the comprehensive health check-up the families were also given access to specialist services including paediatrics, gynaecology, internal medicine and also basic diagnostic services like blood pressure, blood sugar, and haemoglobin levels.
Dr Subhrajyoti Naskar, head of the Community Medicine department said, "This health camp embodies our mission to extend quality healthcare to every section of society. It also provides our MBBS students with invaluable real-world experience in community health management."
This health camp is part of the medical college’s commitment to community health and education, providing essential medical services and health education to underserved families. Through the FAP led by MBBS students, the college is fostering a closer relationship between medical trainees and the community, ensuring continuous care and support for adopted families. Friday’s initiative was conducted by members of the Community Medicine department under the guidance of Dr Subhrajyoti Naskar and Dr Utpal Dan. Principal DHMC.
"We are committed to serving our community and providing our students with opportunities to engage in meaningful public health work," said doctors of the Community Medicine department.
Informative sessions on nutrition, hygiene, family planning, disease prevention and distribution of essential medicine and supplements as per diagnosis was also part of the camp. Sources in the medical college said many more such initiatives will be taken up in the future.
