• Films, tourneys in Kol for Paris Olympics

  • Kolkata: Alliance Francaise du Bengale, in association with the Embassy of France in India and French Institute in India will screen a series of movies that celebrate sports, host a table tennis and dart tournament, organise a virtual reality experience with a focus on Paris monuments and arrange for a meet with M Phryges, the mascot of the Paris Olympics, during the sporting spectacle that gets underway on Friday.

    The programmes will begin on Friday with the screening of ‘Dabaru’, a biopic on chess prodigy Surya who emerges from the streets of north Kolkata to achieve the Grandmaster title. On Saturday, ‘Fahim’ a biopic on Bangladesh-born world junior chess champion Fahim Mohammad will be screened.

    On Aug 5, two movies, ‘Marinette’ on a football star and ‘Ride Above’ about a girl who overcomes a disability caused by a fall from a horse to fulfill her dream of becoming a jockey will be screened.

    On Aug 6, ‘The Witches of the Orient’, a documentary on veteran Japanese volleyball players who had won at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics, will be screened. On Aug 9, ‘L'Esprit Coubertin’ will be screened for school students. On Aug 8 and 9, a virtual reality experience will be organised.
