• Metro to go counterless at 3 stations from Aug 1

  • Kolkata: Metro Railway will launch a pilot project to introduce ‘no booking counter stations’ at Taratala and Sakherbazar on the Purple Line, and Kavi Sukanta on the Orange Line from Aug 1.

In these stations, no booking counters will be opened for issuing of tokens and smart cards, or recharging the existing ones.

There will be no booking staff either.Instead, passengers will use automatic smart card recharge machines (ASCRMs) to purchase tokens, smart cards, and QR code-based tickets.

These stations were chosen due to their low footfall. The average daily passenger count is only 70 at Taratala, 220 at Kavi Sukanta, and 55 at Sakherbazar. The limited service frequency on these lines has contributed to the low footfall. The officials said they would assess passenger feedback to make any changes later.
