  • Kolkata: Travelling from north Kolkata towards Dalhousie or Howrah will take longer for the next three weeks starting Saturday. According to Lalbazar, Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) is likely to take a blockade on Lalbazar Street and Hemanta Basu Sarani for reconstruction of two manholes with ancillary work along both roads.

According to an order from Kolkata Police commissioner Vineet Goyal, traffic circulation along Central Avenue towards Lalbazar Street/Howrah will be diverted.“We expect pressure on CR Avenue and Dorina crossing as all buses will be diverted. We might try to allow smaller vehicles along Lalbazar Street but even that will be regulated during peak hours. If required, we might divert vehicles via MG Road, too. At present, traffic between Bowbazar-CR Avenue and Lalbazar will be affected along with that on Hemanta Bose Sarani,” an officer said.

In a diversion plan, Kolkata Traffic Police said vehicles coming along Central Avenue from the north and vehicles coming along BB Ganguly Street from the east will be diverted from the CR Avenue-BB Ganguly Street crossing for their southward journey. They will avail CR Avenue-Esplanade crossing-Dorina crossing-RR Avenue-Govt Place East-BBD Bag South. Howrah-bound buses on CR Avenue and those travelling along BB Ganguly Street will take CR Avenue-Esplanade crossing-Dorina crossing-RR Avenue-Kings Way/Auckland Road-Strand Road.

Vehicles travelling along Brabourne Road from north to south will be diverted via BBD Bag (East)-Old Court House Street-Esplanade (East) instead of Lalbazar Street/RN Mukherjee Road crossing towards RN Mukherjee Road. Vehicular traffic will also be diverted through arterial roads as and when required.
