  • Several parts of West Bengal are likely to receive light to moderate rainfall in the next seven days, as per the Alipore Meteorological Centre.

The weather department has also predicted a cyclone over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining Bangladesh. Monsoon axis passing through Jamshedpur-Digha to the Bay of Bengal will cause rain in the state, it said.

While the forecast shows no heavy rain in North Bengal for Friday, places including East Medinipur, Jhargram, Purulia and East Burdwan are likely to receive heavy rainfall.

Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, and Alipurduar are likely to see heavy downpour over the next two days.

With the skies in Kolkata and surrounding areas expected to be overcast in the next 24 hours, certain other places might experience two or three spells of showers or thunderstorms, said an official. “The maximum and minimum temperatures can be around 31 degrees Celsius and 27 degrees Celsius,” the official added.

Kolkata’s minimum temperature on Friday was 28.1 degrees Celsius, which is 1.4 degrees higher than normal. It was 28.5 degrees Celsius on Thursday.

The maximum temperature is said to be 31.4 degrees Celsius on Friday with maximum relative humidity at 92 percent and the minimum at 80 percent. The last 24 hours measured a rainfall of 4.5 mm.

Alipore Meteorological Centre said that light to moderate rain is likely to occur in all the South Bengal districts on Sunday. Separate warnings have been issued for North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, Murshidabad, Nadia and East Midnapore, which may experience thunderstorms.
