  • Kolkata: The Nabadiganta Industrial Township Authority (NDITA) plans to set up more than 100 smart road signage across Sector V for the convenience of commuters and motorists. The signage will be visible during night.

The authorities also plan to set up a new bus passenger shelter at the bus stop located opposite SDF Building.

NDITA officials said that the street signage would be installed to help motorists and commuters locate and reach their destinations in a convenient manner.“It is a part of the Smart Street plan. The street leading from Wipro crossing to College More is being planned to be developed into a Smart Street with cycle lanes, street furniture, smart bus stand, water ATMs, public art, CCTV surveillance, decorative illumination,” said an NDITA official.

Officials said that the signage will specify how far a destination or a prominent landmark will be from the particular spot where it’s put up. The signage will lit up after evening for the convenience of motorists. Apart from the stretch planned to be developed as Smart Street, the road signage will also come up on other streets and lanes of the IT hub.

The authorities had also been mulling to fix AI-based sensors to the street signage which will be able to detect different kinds of sound coming from the streets and alert the control room to know if there has been any accident or other incident.“Whenever any untoward incident or accident happens, a noise or sound will get generated. The smart signage will detect it and alert the control room that something has happened at a specific location,” said an official.
