Base constructed for Orange Line’s 90-m Metropolitan viaduct

Kolkata: The Orange Line or the New Garia-Airport Metro corridor has completed base construction of 90 m of viaduct beyond Metropolitan station. By launching a 28-m span up to pier 287, implementing agency Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd (RVNL) now has to bridge only 35 m out of the 125-m gap that existed at Metropolitan for the last six years
In March, the CRS refused approval for launching the 4.5-km Ruby-Metropolitan section because the 90-m viaduct wasn’t in place.
Railway engineers said RVNL will take 45 days to fill the gap at Metropolitan. In the next few weeks, construction of portal piers 288 and 289 will also be completed. Simultaneously, girder-launching at Metropolitan and beyond will be carried out during the night.
The Orange line is chasing a Dec deadline to launch the 8-km Ruby-Sector V section.
