  • Kolkata: The Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation on Monday received an approval for Rs 2.6 crore from the state urban development department to repair and upgrade the main roads in Mahishbathan, Nayapatti and Polenite under ward 28 — just behind the Sector V office hub.

Out of the approved funds, the civic body will use Rs 87 lakh for repairing the main road in Nayapatti, Rs 1.3 crore for the main thoroughfare in Mahishbathan and Rs 43 lakh for upgrading the main road in Polenite.

“Funds have been approved and allocated in phases as per requirements. All the 41 wards of BMC spreading over Salt Lake and Rajarhat-Gopalpur are being covered,” said a BMC roads department official, adding that the authorities would need a few weeks of dry spell for the repair work.

There are several stretches towards the eastern drainage channel side and its adjacent areas in Salt Lake Sector III and portions of the main thoroughfares in Sector I and II where craters have started developing just after the few spells of monsoon rain.
