  • Kolkata: Bengal govt was looking to increase engineering exports, said minister of industry, commerce and enterprises Shashi Panja on Monday, adding that the state was already witnessing an unprecedented growth in manufacturing sector.

The minister was speaking as she presented Engineering Export Promotion Council (EEPC) India’s 38th and 39th Eastern Region Export Awards for 2019-20 and 2020-21 to 67 exporters.

“The exporters from Bengal achieved an export figure of $3,134.8 million during the financial year 2023-24, contributing 2.9% to India’s engineering exports. The EEPC plays a commendable role in promoting our state as a favourable investment destination. Our GSDP has grown to Rs 17 lakh crore in 2023-24 from Rs 4.6 lakh crore in 2010-11. We have reconstituted the state’s exports committee to drive economic growth,” Panja said.

Panja also said that work had begun to establish export facilitation centres in all districts to increase the volume of consignments sent to other countries.

Sanjoy Budhia, co-chairman of state govt’s International Trade and Logistics Committee, said, “Bengal’s total revenue from exports stood at Rs 1 lakh crore last year, with 25% coming from engineering exports. Our aim is to double the state’s total export revenue by 2030.”
