KMC deploys mobile vans to repair cratered stretches

Kolkata: The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) roads department has engaged mobile pothole repairing vans to repair stretches of the city’s roads that have developed craters after spells of intermittent rain in the past seven days.
These vans have been bought to take care of the urgent repair needs of the major roads that develop craters, especially during monsoon due to waterlogging.Four such mobile vans are currently doing rounds of the city.
According to a KMC official, the mobile vans are being used for on-the-spot repairs of small stretches of major thoroughfares. They are also repairing broken neighbourhood roads. “Currently, we are conducting a survey of the roads. If any site requires urgent repair, our officials from the boroughs will send the mobile vans to fix the potholes in 24 hours,” said an official.
According to another official, the vans may prove fruitful for roads along the tram tracks. “Some of the roads along the tracks have developed potholes and hence become accident-prone. We will need to send the mobile vans to fix these potholes that may put the bikers at risk, especially at night,” said a civic official.
According to him, the civic body may buy more such vans next year.
