  • Kolkata: Around a dozen miscreants, several of them wearing masks, allegedly went on a rampage at a bar-cum-restaurant near Tagore Park-VIP Nagar off EM Bypass under Anandapur PS on Monday night.

The accused vandalized four cars and 8-10 bikes parked there. At least three bar employees were also reportedly injured. Two persons have been arrested but the main accused — a local tough — is at large.

According to the police, around 11.30 pm on Monday, the manager of the facility, Narayan Singh, filed a complaint claiming that local tough Sanjay Das and his group attacked the restaurant that night.

According to sources, Das and his group wanted the bar to stay open beyond permissible hours and picked up a fight with the staff there on Monday night. He was also beaten up by the bouncers there.

“Sanjay and his associates also broke the restaurant’s CCTV cameras. After that, they vandalized several vehicles parked in front and fled,” said Singh. TOI tried to reach the bar owner but his phone was switched off.

The CCTV footage, claimed employees, shows that the attackers were hitting the car windows with sticks and iron rods in a manner “similar to playing cricket”.

“The arrested individuals have been identified as Dipankar Das and Mahindra Prasad Gupta, both residents of Rabindranath Colony (Pora Basti) in Anandapur,” said DC (East) Arish Bilal.

TOI visited the spot on Tuesday and found the damaged cars with broken windscreens strewn all over the road.

Delivery boy Ismail, a resident of Netaji Subhas Nagar Colony, whose bike was damaged, said, “I stay here to pick up orders. I had parked my bike near the bar and was chatting with my friends. Suddenly, I saw that some people came out and started vandalizing the vehicles. I could not save my bike as I ran away in fear.”
