  • Kolkata: Calcutta High Court on Tuesday pointed out inadequacies in a report submitted by Tamluk police on the unnatural death of an accused in jail on July 5.

Justice Rajarshi Bharadwaj directed the police and Midnapore jail authorities to submit a fresh report by Aug 8.

“The police report doesn’t mention the bruises and the injury marks on the body evident from the photograph. It is also not clear why the body was sent from jail to police station for conducting postmortem. Even prior approval for shifting a prisoner from one jail to another was not taken,” Justice Bharadwaj observed. Hossain Ali (24) was arrested in Himachal Pradesh’s Solan district on June 28, with a girl (14) he used to tutor. He was found hanging at the Midnapore jail on July 5.
