On Tuesday, Bidhannagar Commissionerate’s Deputy Commissioner (New Town) Manab Singla, ACP Utsa Srimani, and OC Saikat Banerjee, among others, held a press conference at Eco Park police station regarding this matter. The DC said the gang would approach job seekers who had posted their resumes on various job portals. Selected individuals were then called to their New Town office to undergo training in order to secure a good job.

“For the past four months, job seekers not only from Bengal but also Bihar, Odisha, and Jharkhand were being defrauded. The company had taken amounts ranging between thirty thousand to sixty thousand rupees from the candidates. They used to tell the aspirants the company would arrange for their placement after the training,” said Singla. The accused were also brought to the conference with their faces hidden behind pillow covers. Police said one of them complained of suffocation and collapsed. Later, water was splashed on his face to revive him.
