Kolkata: Weapons used in crimes in the city, including an attempted robbery at Southern Avenue, have been traced to illegal arms factories operating in Bihar.
Kolkata Police’s Special Task Force, in a joint raid with Bihar STF, has busted one such unit and arrested four persons who were involved in manufacturing the more sophisticated 7.65mm pistols, along with country-made pistols, in Bihar and then selling them off at the Bengal border.
Sources said several inter-state criminals were buying arms from these illegal arms manufacturers and using them to commit crimes in both states, including the armed robberies reported in Bengal last year. This was KP STF’s ninth successive raids against illegal weapon manufacturers in Bihar in the past two years. tnn
