Kolkata: CM Mamata Banerjee would go to Jhargram on Aug 8-9 on the occasion of International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples, sources in the state secretariat said on Wednesday. Banerjee is likely to hold an administrative meeting and conduct political engagements during the two-day visit.
Sources said changes could be made to the local party organisation.Before the panchayat elections last year, Trinamool had brought forward young faces like Birbaha Hansda. Sources indicated that the brass wanted to bring more fresh faces to the forefront to strengthen the party.
TMC took back Jhargram, which BJP had won in 2019, in the recent LS polls with TMC’s Kalipada Soren securing a victory by a 174,000-vote margin.
