Kolkata: The Bhowanipore Traffic Guard has installed a CCTV camera to stop vehicles from taking a U-turn towards Nandan from AJC Bose flyover without signal and penalize errant motorists.
According to cops, hundreds of vehicles come off AJC Bose flyover every hour to travel further straight towards Howrah or turn left towards Alipore. But the biggest chunk waits at the signal near Hospital Road to turn right.A significant section tries to take a U-turn on to the main AJC Bose Road towards Nandan.
“Those cars trying to turn to Hospital Road overtake each other to stay first when the signal is red. They also do not wait for vehicles from the PTS side to clear out, rushing immediately once the signal turns green. Those taking U-turn often do so even as vehicles rush in from PTS side. This is the reason why the CCTV has been set up,” explained an officer at Lalbazar.
Police are counselling these motorists, especially those moving towards Shakespeare Sarani and Park Street to use the alternative Park Circus-Park Street alignment.
