Kolkata: The Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA) plans to take up urgent repair of Sealdah flyover carriageway, including patchwork of the surface, repairing of potholes, minor repair and uprooting of plants from the flyover structure.
Officials said that wear and tear were developing on the flyover’s carriageway stretch and the potholes were getting larger due to the monsoon rain.Besides, small plants have been found to be growing on the flyover structure at different places which may cause internal structural damage.
The authorities have initiated the process to engage an agency for doing the work, which is expected to be taken up from this month end. An estimate of Rs 4.8 lakh has been fixed for the agency to conduct the work.
KMDA has also been planning to strengthen the flyover but before work could be taken up, hawkers and vendors doing business below the flyover need to be temporarily relocated.
