  • Train services in the Sealdah South section resumed on Wednesday morning, after protesters lifted their five hour-blockade on railway tracks at another station.  In a bid to protest the regular delays in arrival of local trains, passengers squatted on the tracks of the Diamond Harbour station of South 24 Parganas district.

According to protesters, the delays have been causing inconvenience to them who fail to report on time for work and office.

Due to the protest, which began around 5 am, many local trains in Sealdah South section were cancelled, many were running late.   Passengers travelling from Sealdah station to Diamond Harbour were also delayed.

Eastern Railway CPRO Koushik Mitra said after holding talks with passengers railways officials “assured” them of “timely service”, following which they agreed to lift the blockade around 10.30 am.
