  • Kolkata: Calcutta High Court on Friday directed election authorities to preserve all documents and CCTV footage relating to the Ghatal LS polls after BJP’s candidate Hiranmoy Chattopadhyaya, who lost to Trinamool’s Dev, filed an election petition alleging malpractice, reports Subrata Chattoraj.

His counsel Billwadal Bhattacharya urged a forensic audit of all CCTV footage in the constituency on election day.

Justice Bivas Pattanayak directed the registrar general of the high court to serve notices on all seven respondents, including the state election officer. Justice Pattanayak said the prayer for forensic audit of CCTV footage would be considered at the next hearing on Sept 6.

Two other defeated BJP candidates, Abhijit Das and Rekha Patra, have filed similar election petitions challenging the polls in Diamond Harbour and Basirhat, respectively.
