• CU VC, registrar gheraoed over syndicate meeting

  • Kolkata: TMCP members on Friday kept Calcutta University officials, including interim VC Shanta Dutta De and registrar Debashish Das, gheraoed till late at night, protesting against the “syndicate meeting being held without the higher education nod”. The officials sought police help later in the night.

    They locked the gate of CU’s Darbhanga Building.TMCP’s Abhirup Chakrabarty said, “CU officials again called a meeting without govt permission. So we protested and locked the door but they still held the meeting by entering the building through the back gate.” They later locked the campus gate.

    “We are being confined like criminals, something I can’t remember happening here. How can these people, who are not even students, behave like this?” said Das. — Poulami Roy
