Kolkata: ED has arrested Trinamool Deganga block president Anisur Rahman and his brother Alif Noor alias Mukul Rahman in the multi-crore ration scam case. The duo was remanded in ED custody till Aug 12. After nearly 14 hours of questioning, ED arrested Anisur and Alif late on Thursday night. They were produced in court on Friday.
The agency claimed that Anisur, who owned a rice mill, bought rice from fake farmers and received Rs 45 crore from govt for paddy processing.Former food minister Jyoti Priya Mallick and businessman Bakibur Rahman were earlier arrested in the case. Anisur and Alif are relatives of Bakibur.
ED had summoned the two brothers after nearly 21 hours of search operations at their house and mill. tnn
