  • Kolkata: Mohammedan Sporting required a stoppage-time penalty to hold Diamond Harbour FC 1-1 in their CFL Premier Division match in Naihati on Saturday and keep their title defence on track.

Jobby Justin gave Diamond Harbour the lead in the 31st minute. Just when the three-time defending champions Mohammedan Sporting looked to be headed to another defeat this term, they got a lifeline when Diamond Harbour’s second-half substitute Supriya Pandit committed a needless foul on KV Salman Faris inside the box, leading to the penalty.

Bamiya Samad, who also came in the second half, made no mistake in beating the rival goalkeeper from the spot.

Despite the draw, Kibu Vicuna’s DHFC stayed on top of the Group A table with 17 points from 7 matches. Mohammedan Sporting with 14 points from 8 matches are at third place, a point ahead of United SC who, however, have a game in hand.

The top three from the group will advance to the championship round.
