Kolkata: A priest, Surajkumar Pandey, was arrested by Haridevpur police on Thursday night from the Brace bridge area in Taratala for allegedly raping a woman on the pretext of marriage. Cops slapped him with charges of rape, fraud, and other offenses.
Police said the accused met the survivor at a temple, and gradually developed a relationship with her.After visiting the woman’s house, the accused promised to marry her and allegedly raped her multiple times.
Since April, he stopped taking the woman’s phonecalls. Realizing she had been deceived, the survivor filed a written complaint at Haridevpur police station. tnn
