• IPGMER, NGO on national honour list

  • Kolkata: Bengal’s premier Institute, Post Graduate Medical Education and Research (IPGMER), has bagged the best Brain Stem Declaration Certifying Team from NOTTO (National Organ & Tissue Transplant Organisation) on Saturday in the national capital during the celebration of 14th Indian Organ Donation Day.

    “The cycle of deceased organ donation and transplant begins with declaring a patient brain dead.The brain death declaration committee works diligently behind the scenes in identifying such patients and convincing families about such death. This recognition will encourage our team to work harder,” said Manimoy Banerjee, director IPGMER.

    Transplant coordinators Nirmal Dutta and Sweta Chakraborty received the award on behalf of the institute. IPGMER is the first hospital in eastern India to begin the deceased organ donation movement in 2010 by declaring a patient brain dead. This year, of the 11 deceased donations in Bengal, six have been from IPGMER.

    An NGO, Barasat Samajik Seba ,Pratisthan was also recognised by NOTTO for its contribution in the organ donation movement.
