• Ration scam: ED tracks ₹10k cr ill-gotten money

  • Kolkata: Investigating the ration scam in the state, ED has so far tracked Rs 10,000 crore usurped through bogus farmer accounts, adulteration of food grain and siphoning-off of food PDS grain. The agency claimed that the entire operation was conducted across the state through former food minister Jyoti Priya Mallick.

    The amount was kept with a number of agents who allegedly paid Mallick “interest” on the ill-gotten money, said ED.Prime accused Bakibur Rehman alone had siphoned off more than Rs 465 crore between 2016 and 2023, it alleged.

    On Sunday, ED continued its questioning of arrested Trinamool Deganga block president Anisur Rehman and his brother Alif Noor aka Mukul. Investigators have so far tracked Rs 20 crore kept with Mukul. They have also come across several communications from Mallick instructing Mukul to pay money to a number of persons.
