  • Women devotees lead holy march on Shrawan Somvar in Kolkata In a notable shift within a traditionally male-dominated practice, the city of Kolkata witnessed a remarkable sight as women devotees marched towards the temple for worship during the holy month of Shrawan Somvar.

    On this auspicious Monday, an exclusive arrangement was organized for women devotees, led by Priyadarshini Hakim, general secretary of the WB Mahila Trinamool Congress.The procession commenced from Chetla Park and proceeded to the ancient Bhu Kailash Shiv Temple in Kidderpore.

    The event saw over 500 women participating in the holy walk. The organizers ensured comprehensive arrangements, including sarees and kalash for the devotees, ambulances for any emergencies, and refreshments to help those fasting.

    Priyadarshini Hakim spearheaded this significant event, showcasing the increasing involvement of women in religious activities traditionally dominated by men. This initiative not only facilitated spiritual devotion but also highlighted the evolving role of women in cultural and religious practices.

    The holy march, held on the ongoing Shrawan month, took place on Monday, August 5 at 10 am, with women walking from Chetla Park to Bhukailash Mandir in Khidderpore for Shiv Aradhana. This event was a testament to the city's progressive steps towards inclusive religious observance.
