• Students refuse entry to CU interim VC

  • Kolkata: The interim vice-chancellor of Calcutta University, Shanta Datta De, was stopped by TMCP supporters at the main gate on Monday at 3pm when she was entering the College Street campus. She waited there for five hours and returned around 8pm. TMCP protesters said she has no authority to enter the campus as her term was over. Datta said, “Such illegal unlawful and riotious behaviour at the behest of the student wing of the ruling party should be condemned.”

    The Jorasanko PS OC who arrived after nearly four hours said, “Majority of the protesters were not bonafide students.It’s unfortunate that the students’ interest is being sacrificed for the ruling party’s political agenda,” he said.
