  • Kolkata: Kolkata Traffic Police has decided to shut traffic movement on Maa flyover from 12 midnight to 5 am for the proposed KMDA work to complete the protective painting and allied works at the flyover’s ROB part (on top of bridge number 4).

This will come into force immediately and will continue till completion of the work.

According to plans, the vehicles coming from Salt Lake and East Kolkata via E M Bypass, intend to avail Maa flyover for their westward journey, will be diverted via E M Bypass–Parama Island–Park Circus Connector–No.4 Bridge–New Park Street–Congress Exhibition Road–Amir Ali Avenue/Nasiruddin Road–AJC Bose flyover.

The vehicles, availing AJC Bose flyover–Maa flyover for their eastward journey, will be diverted via Seven Point Crossing–Suhrawardi Avenue–Darga Road–Number 4 Bridge–Park Circus Connector and finally E M Bypass.

The police said that they will be putting up enough signage and cops at the two ends of the flyovers. “We do not expect too many issues since there are fewer cars using this stretch, mainly from the airport,” said a senior officer.

A complete overhaul of CCTV cameras, including checking their workability, will also be carried out during this period. Though this was decided by the civic agencies and Kolkata Police jointly recently, cops requested KMDA to act on Monday itself after a review at Lalbazar.

“While the KMDA carries out regular checks on the Maa flyover, we have requested for more frequent checks as often the CCTV footage appears grainy and it becomes difficult to read the number plates at night,” said an officer at Lalbazar.
