  • Director Rahool Mukherjee has returned to the set of Shree Venkatesh Films’ (SVF) after days of controversy, in Kolkata. The shooting resumed on Tuesday morning at a South Kolkata studio in the presence of the actor Anirban Bhattacharya. Prosenjit Chatterjee, however, is not a part of Tuesday’s shoot.

The resumption comes after the Federation of Cine Technicians and Workers of Eastern India (FCTWEI) withdrew its non-cooperation decision against Mukherjee. “On July 30, the Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee clearly mentioned that Rahool Mukherjee will continue as director and her word is final for us,” said a federation member.

Earlier, federation president Swarup Biswas had indicated a discussion with Mukherjee and later announced cooperation from the technicians. A formal statement from the guild confirmed the withdrawal of the non-cooperation decision, citing Banerjee’s statement as the reason.

The film ‘Production Number 171’ starring Prosenjit Chatterjee, Anirban Bhattacharya, and Priyanka Sarkar, is supposed to be released ahead of Durga Puja. The shooting was slated to begin on July 27.

The standoff between directors and technicians led to a complete shutdown of shoots in Kolkata as other directors joined the protest in solidarity with Rahool Mukherjee, who was boycotted by technicians.

Later, veteran director Goutam Ghose, Prosenjit Chatterjee, and Dev met with the CM at Nabanna, temporary State Secretariat, to discuss the impasse in the presence of the state’s power minister Aroop Biswas. “If Didi hadn’t intervened, the issue could have gone on for a while. From now on, no one can be banned,” Dev said, thanking the CM for her timely intervention.
