  • Asking the West Bengal government to maintain communal harmony in the state, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) on Wednesday said those “involved in committing atrocities” in Bangladesh following the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government should not be allowed to enter India. The Hindu outfit also asked the Central government “to create space for Hindu refugees”.

“We are worried about the situation in Bangladesh. Heeding to the students’ demand, Prime Minister Hasina resigned. But violence and robbery did not end after that. Atrocities on minorities increased. We expect peace will prevail in Bangladesh very soon,” said VHP’s South Bengal president Chandranath Das.

“Those involved in atrocities in Bangladesh should not be allowed to enter West Bengal. We have seen that some people did victory rallies after the fall of the Hasina government in Bangladesh. We are appealing to the West Bengal government to maintain peace and communal harmony here,” Das added.

Reiterating its earlier statement, the VHP leader asked the Centre to ensure security of Hindus in Bangladesh. “We are appealing to the Government of India that they should try to create space for Hindu refugees facing atrocities in Bangladesh and keen to come to India”.

“We want peace in Bangladesh. We are hoping the situation will be under control. We are also appealing to the Indian government to ensure security of Hindus in Bangladesh… We are hoping that democratic government will be formed there because such a situation is not desirable for any country,” the VHP leader said.

On Tuesday, the VHP raised concerns over reported attacks on Hindus and other minorities in Bangladesh during the ongoing unrest in the country. It asked the government to take every possible step to ensure their safety.
