  • Kolkata: Kolkata Police DCP Indira Mukherjee, who is heading the special enquiry team (SET) probing the sexual abuse charges against governor CV Ananda Bose, will be awarded a West Bengal Police Medal.

CM Mamata Banerjee usually hands over the police medals during the Independence Day at the Red Road function. Incidentally, governor Bose had demanded that the MHA act against Mukherjee and city police commissioner Vineet Goyal for probing charges against him despite the constitutional immunity. The MHA had left the issue with the state.

The other police medal recipients are Mukesh, CP of Bidhannagar, Avvaru Ravindranath, DIG (security) and Dibyajyoti Das, OSD in CMO.

Despite the governor’s plea to the MHA, in which he had claimed that the molestation complaint was engineered and Kolkata Police had played the role of facilitator, the MHA officers had said the Centre cannot take any disciplinary action against IPS officers, only the state where they are based can. The Trinamool Congress had strongly protested the action by the governor in overstepping in his constitutional brief. The Calcutta High Court has temporarily paused the ongoing probe pending an appeal by the Raj Bhavan staffers implicated in the case.
