“My sincere congratulations and best wishes to Professor Muhammad Yunus and those who have taken up their duties in Bangladesh. Hopefully, our relationship with them will improve. I wish for Bangladesh’s development, peace, progress and betterment of people from all walks of life. My best wishes to everyone from students, youth, workers, farmers, women there. Hopefully, the crisis will end soon, and peace will return. Let peace come back to this world of love of yours and mine. If our neighboring states are doing well, we will be doing well too,” CM Banerjee posted on X.

Yunus was sworn in as the head of the interim government in Bangladesh Thursday.

Additionally, Banerjee greeted the tribal people on the occasion of the International Day of the World’s Indigenous People and said her government was committed to their comprehensive development. Addressing a gathering during a state-sponsored programme in Jhargram district to mark the day — observed by her government as ‘Adivasi Dibas’, she said, “I say Jai Johar to all my Adivasi brothers and sisters. I extend my greetings to all the other communities in Bengal too.”

She said that under her government, an Adivasi Bhavan in Rajarhat has been constructed and soon, Jhargram and Kalimpong too, will have the same.

Mamata Banerjee reiterated that in Jhargram, one lakh households have already received piped water supply and the remaining 2.5 lakh households will also get it in due course of time. “From super speciality hospitals to medical colleges and ITIs, Jhargram has now become a self-sufficient district. In the coming days, we will also implement the Ghatal Master Plan,” she stated.

In addition to this, Banerjee expressed hope that Jhargram archery academy will create a world class sportsman. “We have the Jhargram archery academy, It is my hope and vision that people from here will one day go to the Olympic games and bring medals. I remember the Olympic games that took place over 20 years ago, … I was the Youth and Sports Minister then. I had a vision of establishing an academy and preparing athletes so that after 20-21 years, the Indian athletes could earn global fame and respect. The girl [Vinesh Phogat] who could have brought gold medal, could not. And I am very sad about it. … I congratulate her for her efforts.”

The chief minister announced that a tiger safari will soon come up in Jhargram, which will enhance tourism in the district and that sectors from tourism to religious circuits, the entire Jangal Mahal region has been revamped. “We have a small zoo here and soon, we will start a tiger safari worth Rs 10 crore here to attract more tourists. A big bazaar will be constructed here over 1 acres of land and people from self-help groups can sell their goods. The establishment will have a movie theatre along with a shopping mall and a community hall. We will implement this in all the 23 districts. The tenders will be released soon,” she added.
